Noto, located in the southeast of Sicily, dazzled me with its atmosphere and architecture. Contemporary cathedral, churches and palaces, all in almost identical shade of golden honey, truly represent the Sicilian Baroque. This clean and tidy town, with an attractive center with over 30 churches and 40 palaces, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002.

Living in the biggest island in the Mediterranean is giving me a lot of opportunities to explore it. Throughout history, from the Greeks to modern day Italy, Sicily has had high-importance strategically for military operations, economic trade, and control of resources. From ancient times to modern day life it has also been a place to holiday and no other town stands out like Taormina.

On a hill-top not too far away from the strait that divides Sicily from the Italian Peninsula lies a charming city, facing out toward the Ionian Sea from a high, natural terrace. With its Medieval architecture, its ancient Greek soul, and the colors of Mediterranean foliage, Taormina is one of the most beautiful places you could visit in the world. The Greeks and Romans who holidayed in Taormina savoured that very same view, and it continues to be a destination to this day.

Italy is a country full of truly unique villages in the world. You can find places that are known for their rich history, while others are known just for their particular beauty. In Sicily there is a place that is peculiar and fascinating that is known for its shape. The name of this town is Centuripe.

It is a village that gets its beauty from being perched on five cliffs that are joined together, which gives life to a picturesque man-shape. Known as the "balcony of Sicily", this town has stunning views across to Mount Etna. Centuripe has avoided mass tourism, since It has been on my to-do-list, I will be the visiting tourist to explore this place.

Ragusa, Sicily : A Fascinating City Trapped In Time

I am on the move exploring Sicily again, searching and exploring to find the best things this Mediterranean island has to offer. I heard about Ragusa from some locals who encouraged me to visit this charming little town. I was told, “If you want to see how Sicily looked like in the 17th century, you need to go there”. Well, I have it on my sight and I want to see what this town is all about. My camera is fully charged, so let’s see what I can discover and learn about this area. I am intrigued and ready to explore this city. Ragusa here I come!
